( PLAYER INFORMATION )

Name: Leif

( CHARACTER INFORMATION )

Name/Work Name: Abe no Sousei / I AM STILL THINKING OF ONE CAN I DO IT LATER I AM GOING TO DO IT LATER PUNCH ME I GUESS
Canon: Donten ni Warau
Canon Point: Right before giving his sword to Soramaru
AU/CRAU: N
Age: 24
History: The setting is Japan, the Meiji era. In this world Lake Biwa is the site of a three hundred year cyclical resurrection of an evil(?) spirit, the Orochi, which takes over a vessel and causes disaster. For a long time certain exorcist clans, including the Abe and Kumou, have been fighting it every cycle. Relevant to Sousei's story, the latest cycle is the beginning of the Meiji era, the government has formed a specialized team, the Yamainu, in preparation for the resurrection, which consists of the most likely Orochi candidates from each household, of which Sousei is one. Since the Abe are assholes Sousei'd been isolated ever since he was a child, so when he was sent to train for this special unit at a young age he was pretty aloof and smart and under-socialized. HE MADE FRIENDS ANYWAY because the teacher was a nice guy and the Yamainu members were also all pretty good people.

His best friends were Sasaki and Kumou Tenka (the son of the unit teacher Taiko) and he grew up loving them and fighting with Tenka a lot. When he was a young teen Taiko gave him the Abe family sword (left with the Kumou a few centuries ago). Taiko was later murdered along with his wife under mysterious circumstances. Tenka, who was the unit commander left the unit to take over his family and watch over his brothers which left Sousei, who kind of depended on Tenka emotionally, a little (a lot) bitter and angry about it. SO MOVE FORWARD ELEVEN YEARS Sousei's pretty bitchy, the Yamainu are all crack amazing badasses he leads, and it's about time for the Orochi to show up.

Sousei and his Yamainu have been looking for the Orochi all this time and so has Tenka. VARUOUS SHIT HAPPENS, most of it centered around the Kumou brothers, including Sousei taking Kumou Soramaru (Tenka's younger brother) as a student and Tenka being executed as the Orochi vessel (very distressing to Sousei and Sasaki) and then the actual Orochi turns out to be Soramaru.

Sousei, finally deciding that maybe eliminating the Orochi wasn't the best option, says he'll try to help Soramaru but before they can do anything, Soramaru is kidnapped by Fuuma ninjas who want to serve the Orochi. Assholes. They also happen to have been responsible for Taiko's murder years earlier.

So Sousei is on the search for Soramaru who is becoming the Orochi. In canon they find a way to separate the Orochi from the host with a sacred sword Soramaru owns and kill it with the sword Sousei posses, however I'll be taking Sousei from right as he gives Soramaru his sword to defeat the serpent and stays back with Tenka to talk.

Personality: In his early years Sousei was entirely isolated from his family, he was raised away from any positive or negative influence. He was not treated unkindly exactly, but the ideals instilled in him from birth were that he was a pawn to the Abe clan and that his purpose was either to become the Orochi or die killing or baiting it. Any kind of kindness in his upbringing was therefor unneeded, because he was just a pawn. He was taught and trained from a young age, and was incredibly intelligent and talented, both in swordsmanship and exorcism. Though he pursued the latter over the former as his path.

He might have grown up like that, isolated emotionally from people, but when he was maybe five or six he was selected to join a special unit tasked with hunting the Orochi under the government. The unit trainer was Kumou Taiko, and among the people on that unit were a girl and boy Sousei's age, as well as a number of older men. And everyone there treated Sousei as a person, a new, rather annoying experience. It took Sousei a long time to warm up to these people, but Tenka, the unit leader's son and the boy Sousei's age, especially persisted at Sousei. He shared his ideals, to be a hero to protect other people, even if no one knew of them, and that especially resonated deeply with Sousei.

Slowly but surely Sousei stopped viewing himself and others as pawns, and took on the ideal of protecting the country with his comrades. He was always awkward emotionally, his friendship with Tenka was combative and full of rivalry and his fondness for others was not something he expressed easily, grumpy and grouchy and aloof by nature and by his early development.

When Tenka left the Yamainu it was a major blow to Sousei, who, not understanding the reasons Tenka had, and since Tenka wouldn't explain them, believed Tenka had betrayed the Yamainu and his ideals to protect the country. Sousei took command of the Yamainu around thirteen or fourteen and for over ten years he viewed his best friend as a traitor and with bitterness. But this didn't stop him from believing in the ideal of protecting his country, and Sousei himself grew to be a man who deeply and passionately cares about his comrades, to the point that he has complete and absolute faith in the other members of the Yamainu.

Sousei has his good points, he is loyal, intelligent, cunning, able to rationally look at extreme situations and think on his toes. He will lie with a straight face to protect his friends and with the same calmness declare anyone who underestimates his unit and their teamwork doomed fools. He is fiercely protective of his people and even sometimes emotionally competent as a commander and as a leader. However he is also tsundere, he lies to hide his emotions at times, he pretends he cares less than he actually does, and he holds a grudge forever. He's emotionally awkward most of the time, and he can be absolutely vicious when angered.

He keeps a stoic face in most situations, and his self-confidence and arrogance can be a little alarming. He claims to be interested in people only as tools to use and then turns around and proves himself deeply attached to those he lets close to him. Sousei can and will be stubborn, irritable, hypocritical and contrary, but his love and loyalty to his friends is difficult to shake--even after betrayal, which he will get angry and treat the person coldly over, if he was attached enough he will still try to hear out their reasons. Though true betrayal is something he might never forgive, because he is not a very forgiving person.

Other notes: Sousei is actually quite a nerd and kind of cute. His hobby is stamp collecting, he doesn't like wasabi or spicy things, he's fond of mayonnaise, he likes to read, and he's a gifted Exorcist but he never uses those powers in canon, they're mentioned only in passing. He's also the kind of person that records EVERY SPARRING MATCH HE HAD WITH TENKA INCLUDING WIN/LOSS/DRAW TALLIES EVEN AFTER IT GOT WELL INTO THE HUNDREDS he's a dork

Debt: A way to ensure the Orochi's defeat is a true, lasting defeat, that it won't resurrect again.
Suitability: Sousei was raised to be a pawn initially, and while he no longer views himself that way, he's had to ACT like a dog of the government and pretend to put up with demeaning treatment by his superiors for years. He doesn't like it but it doesn't damage his sense of self or chafe him so badly he can't cope. For the right cause, he'll do what it takes.
